Art Moves: 2003 Department of Art Faculty Exhibition marked the opening of the new Katherine E. Nash Gallery located at the heart of the West Bank Arts Quarter on the University of Minnesota’s west bank campus
Art Moves brought together the creative work of a rich and very diverse group of 23 Department of Art faculty. They have received post-graduate degrees from prestigious institutions that span the continent from the University of Washington in Seattle to Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Numerous grants, fellowships, and competitive awards of both national and regional acclaim have been awarded to individual faculty members for their research. The results can be found in museums, galleries, and public and private collections throughout the country and abroad.
Art Moves included drawings, paintings, ceramic work, photography, prints, and a variety of sculptural work as well as electronic art and installation work. Participating artists included: Christine Baeumler, Guy Baldwin, Karl Bethke, Margaret Bohls, Thomas Cowette, Jan Estep, David Feinberg, Marjorie Franklin, Erik Geschke, Lynn Gray, Gary Hallman, Jim Henkel, Curtis Hoard, Diane Katsiaficas, Jerry Krepps, Alexis Kuhr, Thomas Lane, Susan Lucey, Lynn Lukkas, Joyce Lyon, Clarence Morgan, Mark Pharis, Wayne Potratz, Thomas Rose and Tetsuya Yamada.

In addition to being a diverse and exciting exhibition, “Art Moves” honors decades of faculty advocacy and commemorates the vision and effort that have culminated in a unique state of the art facility. “Art Moves” celebrates a new beginning for the Department of Art and the Katherine E. Nash Gallery in the emerging West Bank Arts Quarter.
