The Katherine E. Nash Gallery is proud to present culturing nature : : culturing technology, seven women artists challenging the boundaries of nature and technology. This exhibition opens February 26 and runs through March 27, 2008. A public reception has been scheduled for Friday, February 29 from 6-8:30 pm. All events at the Nash are free and open to the general public.

The Regis Center for Art is located at 405 21st Avenue South on the west bank campus of the University of Minnesota. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am – 7:00 pm. Parking is available in the 21st Avenue Ramp.

The seven artists participating in the culturing nature :: culturing technology exhibition have in common their propensity for working among disciplines and across media to realize their ideas. Collectively these artists have collaborated with other biological life forms, engaged with machines as companion species, traveled near and afar from the continent of Antarctica to unseen local neighborhoods. All have invented their own processes or expanded the scope of contemporary art genres to realize their concepts, installations, photographs and interactive artworks. Each approaches the dynamics of culturing nature and culturing technology from a unique perspective.

Participating artist Amy Youngs will be presenting a public lecture on her work on Wednesday, March 12, at 7 pm in the IN-FLUX Space, Regis Center for Art.

The metaphor of culturing expands the space for dialogue about the cultural context of art and technology and introduces the concept of culturing in contrast to that of control. culturing nature :: culturing technology, in the Nash Gallery is presented in conjunction with the Wonder Women :: Art and Technology (wonderwomen.umn.edu) series of events March 12- 14, 2008.
