Master of Fine Arts Exhibition at the Nash

Gail Heidel: Converge, ceramics, dimensions variable
The Katherine E. Nash Gallery is proud to present six Master of Fine Arts exhibitions in a show that will run April 2 through April 24, 2008. A public reception is scheduled for Friday, April 4 from 6 – 8:30 pm. All events at the Nash are free and open to the general public.
The Regis Center for Art is located at 405 21st Avenue South on the west bank campus of the University of Minnesota. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11am – 7pm. Parking is available in the 21st Avenue Ramp.
The Katherine E. Nash Gallery will feature a diversity of work from the Master of Fine Arts graduate students. Graduate students featured include:
Christopher Baker: Christopher will feature a large-scale video installation which examines the use of contemporary communication in society;
Carlos DeGroot: Carlos’s artwork is inspired by the exploration and discovery of the natural world around us;
Gail Heidel: Gail’s project, “Converge,” conveys the interconnectivity of the human condition using the Internet and urbanism as metaphors;
Caroline Kent: Caroline will display works that portray the transformation that happens between man and his surroundings while in a foreign place, specifically relating to Romania;
Tim Roby: Tim uses the aesthetics of daily visual occurrences to create the sensation of the moment of discovery;
R. Justin Stewart: R. Justin is displaying “Bus Structure,” a three-dimensional representation of the Sunday Minneapolis and St. Paul metro transit route, to communicate the complexities in society and the inherent need for organization.
The Master of Fine Arts degree is the highest degree awarded within the fine arts. The exhibitions represent the culmination of work by graduate students during the three-year-program at the University of Minnesota.
