In modern society, quiet time is an elusive reprieve, that hypothetical pause in the day where oneis allowed to do nothing. One’s time is measured in minutes, in hours, in days, in dollars. Yet, the existence of this exhibition proves that this mindset is not the only one. "Quiet Time: Love's Labour” explores artists’ own personal expressions of time, illuminating the notion that not all quiet time is “downtime” and not all labor is rewarded economically. After all, artistic expression itself revolts against the notion of "time is money” and the thousands of “starving artists” attest to this. In a world where nearly everything is assessed on a monetary system, where does art fit? One only needs to examine the works within this exhibition to realize that these artists have found a different solution. – Nicole Salm
